The reasons for firing three police officers: a van with "poor papers," abandoning duty, and absenteeism

The reasons for firing three police officers: a van with "poor papers," abandoning duty, and absenteeism

The Alfredo Cornejo administration officially dismissed three police officers on Tuesday. The disciplinary measures were issued through resolutions published in the Official Gazette. The cases arose after administrative investigations were conducted by the General Security Inspectorate (IGS) .

In all three cases, the Ministry of Security and Justice emphasized that the procedures provided for in Law 6722 on Police Disciplinary Regime were followed, including the review of the police force, the opening of administrative investigations, the intervention of the Disciplinary Board, and the publication of summonses in the Official Gazette.

The resolutions also emphasize that those sanctioned have 15 business days to file appeals for revocation, hierarchical appeals, or clarification, in accordance with the provisions of Law 9003 on Administrative Procedure.

The first case concerns an inspector who was dismissed from his duties with a sanction subject to exoneration in the event of a criminal conviction . The measure was established in Resolution 4685-SyJ dated September 17, 2025.

The administrative investigation began in 2023, when personnel from the Auto Theft Division found Carbajal aboard a Ford Ecosport SUV that had been wanted since 2020.

The vehicle had irregularities: altered documentation, glass replaced with handmade engravings, and a chassis number corresponding to another vehicle .

The officer was charged in criminal court with concealment of stolen property (Article 277 of the Criminal Code), although the arraignment hearing did not take place due to his failure to appear.

At the administrative level, the IGS determined that the officer violated the duties of his position by failing to comply with basic police procedures. Initially, a suspension had been suggested, but the IGS Board of Directors and then the Disciplinary Board recommended dismissal, considering the seriousness of the conduct.

The second incident involves a police assistant who was dismissed after being found to have dereliction of duty. The sanction was imposed by Resolution 4634-SyJ of September 23, 2025. In addition, the Administration Directorate was ordered to analyze the possible restitution of wages in the event of improper payment.

According to the case file, the officer had requested a one-year leave of absence without pay, from July 2023 to June 2024. Upon expiration of the leave , he failed to report to his workplace or take steps to be reinstated . Later, the 23rd Police Station in Uspallata confirmed that he did not reside at the stated address and that the neighbors did not recognize him.

Following several citations published in the Official Gazette and the opening of a summary investigation, the IGS concluded that Salas had voluntarily and maliciously abandoned public security service, constituting the offense provided for in Article 100, Section 3, of Law 6722.

Finally, there is an assistant officer who was dismissed after it was found that he did not return to his duties following an unpaid leave granted between April 2023 and March 2024 .

When his license expired, the officer failed to show up for work, and Las Heras Police Station 43 confirmed that he no longer resided at the address he had been registered with since 2021. He also failed to respond to emailed summonses or notifications published in the Official Gazette.

The investigation concluded that the officer had willfully and maliciously derelict his duty, which constitutes a serious offense under Law 6722. The Disciplinary Board and the Legal Counsel Department recommended the maximum penalty.
